Taqueria Coatzingo

“It's delivered with sides of salsa and the traditional serving of limes, radishes, onions, and grilled whole jalapeños–yum!”

“I think both locations have the best tacos I've eaten in NY and I have done time with taco trucks on Roosevelt Avenue for many years.”

“I will still probably go to the original much more often in the future because its got the original, old school, grimy, Queens, NY taqueria atmosphere, but the food here is just as good.”

  1. For some reason I had very low expectations of this place — perhaps because I am loyal to Taqueria Coatzingo on Roosevelt Avenue near 76th street, perhaps I ignorantly assumed that because it was a clone of the other location they would just be "phoning it in" and their food wouldn't be able to compare, or perhaps because I foolishly thought that this street is so over-populated and boisterous with all types of people–of various ethnic backgrounds and divergent cultures–there couldn't be any way it would actually be very authentic or consistent… Boy was I wrong!

The food here is just as good as at its sister restaurant — and for some people this may even be a preferable venue for food consumption, because it's cleaner and more modern — but I still prefer the overall atmosphere and environment of its sibling eatery, it's more charming and "real," but, in all honesty, there's nothing to complain about here in terms of mood — it's cozy.

The tacos are bang on — I've had the lengua (tongue) and tripas (tripe) and cesina (salted beef) and carne enchila (spicy pork) and carnitas (braised pork) and chorizo (sausage) — these are my favorites, I judge all taquerias by their renditions to gauge their preparations and standards of cooking and presentation — and, honestly, they were all absolutely delicious.

Even though it's a called a "Taqueria," believe it or not, their selection of tacos only takes up a small fraction of the whole menu, and from their other food items I've only had a few other things… Their tamales are solid (particularly the Raja), and their cemitas (especially the Milanesa and the Cubana) are supremely satisfying and masterfully-prepared gut-busters…. Of course they have delicious horchata and a decent assortment of Mexican beer… I haven't tried any of the soups or breakfasts or desserts, but perhaps sometime in the near future I will — though it's doubtful considering my ever-lasting taco fixation…

The complementary chips & salsa are always fresh and flavorful, and the waitresses never complain–or even so much as add it on the bill–if you ask for more.

  2. We had a craving for Mexican that had to be satiated. I yelped this place and figured it was worth the 20 minute ride. It was cheap and delicious. My hubby had the burrito which was huge and he ate the whole thing. I had the chicken tacos  which were also huge and came with a helping of guacamole on top (a little watery for my taste but still good). The service was fast, the free chips and salsa was a super bonus and it was all under 20 bucks. I definitely want to try the steak taco next time because of all those reviews.

  3. If you're hungry during late night – come to Taqueria
if you have looking for food under $ 8.00 – come to Taqueria
If you're craving for Meat, MEAT meat! – Come to Taqueria
If you're craving for Mexican and don't know where to go? – Come to Taqueria

If you're drunk and don't know where to go???  – Come to Taqueria and Sober up!

I get 2 small tacos con Carnitas (BUT Big CHUNKS of meat) for $ 2.50 each.  = $ 5.00 and I get full from it.

They also Serve Burritos, Tortillas, y muchos mas!
