La Bergamote

“The croissant was lovely, with a nice wide stripe of yummy chocolate down the center, and a flaky, moist pastry.”

“Pascaline: We started with this one, which is pistachio and hazelnut mousses that are wrapped inside a mini, hollowed-out, almond sponge cake.”

“The Daily Show is awesome, obviously, but all the waiting in line for getting into the taping can be tedious.”

  1. Wonderful cafe and patisserie with a huge assortment of cakes. The man working that night very kindly and patiently described each and every cake to me. I have since forgotten all the names, but there was a coffee creme brulee, a tiramisu, German chocolate, something with lemon, and a cake that was actually cream sandwiched between two meringues and coated in chocolate. I ordered a bunch. They are not cheap, but very tasty!

  2. Looking for a different place to eat early morning on a Saturday. Tucked away near a bunch of apartment complexes, this restaurant boasts a large selection of pastries and your usual fare of brunch items.

Plenty of seating to start the day, though I was told the chef was running late – so I got a large latte ($4) and a croissant ($2.85) to start. Flaky and warm croissant, yet not as buttery as I would have hoped. Coffee is made well, not too bitter and didn't require much added sugar. Once the chef arrived I ordered the Baked Eggs ($15) – a casserole shaped dish with peppers, cheese, and bacon baked inside. Even with the bacon, the dish definitely needed more salt, and preferably more cheese. Satisfying meal overall that didn't leave me too full.

Not a bad brunch spot at all, especially with all the seating near the windows. Worth a second trip for the pastries.

  3. I went to Le Bergamote recently after running some errands in Hell'S Kitchen. It is located on 52nd street between 10th and 11th Avenues (but closer to 10th). It is a little off the beaten path but well worth a visit. The seating area is L shaped and a long counter encompassing all kinds of delicacies occupies the rest of the space. I ordered from the brunch menu which consisted of all types of egg options. I got the quiche lorraine which came with a small tossed salad. The quiche was filled with large chunks of ham and was very tasty. I also got an English muffin to round out the meal. There is no fixed price brunch menu-it is all a la carte. It was an excellent meal although the waitperson could have been a little more personable. The restroom is disabled friendly. I would recommend and return-it is well worth it.

  4. Glad to find another hidden, great dessert spot in Hell's kitchen. There are few bakeries in the area, but frankly none of them has pleased me except Amy's Bread. La Bergamote is a good supplement or complement to Amy's Bread for those who are looking for petite french style cakes and pastries. Napoleon is a must-try here. Soft, creamy and not overly sweet. Anything with chocolate is delish too. Unfortunately, no cheese cake here, but there are a plenty of other savory options that can fulfill your appetite!

The only reason I'm rating 3 stars even though I was happy with desserts is that I haven't tried that famous brunch menu yet (see, I'm a unbiased reviewer lol). Let me try once again for brunch and re-visit the rating with 4 stars. It's not a matter of quality of this place, just a matter of timing.

  5. Stopped by here for brunch after, yes, searching for somewhere to eat on Yelp. I was worried it was closed because of all the construction going on around it, but alas, it was open (yay!)

It's such a cute little place to eat and all the food looks so good, especially the pastries they have. I ended up ordering the eggs benedict with chicken sausage and it was deeeeelicious. It came with a side of potatoes and salad, which was perfect!

Glad I found this little gem. Next time, french toast!

  6. Nice little french place with an enticing display of pastries and a yummy lunch menu. I shared a charcuterie plate and a croque madame with my friend. The charcuterie plate could have been improved with some sweet components (jam maybe?) to counteract all the salted meats. The croque madame was amazing, the egg on top was perfect with a runny yolk, and it was perfect to share between the two of us. Such a shame that we were too full for any dessert as the display looked amazing!

  7. Or frequented here multiple times and had a number of different experiences, and I'll tell you why. If you're coming for coffee and pastries – 5 stars all the way. The coffee and espresso are delicious and the pastries are as well, plus they're adorable and great for gifts! They have a huge variety of pastries and cakes in the case and they're all beautiful, and they do custom cakes as well.

If you're coming for breakfast, however, I'd give it 3 stars. Sitting outside in the sun is wonderful but the quality for what you're paying is, well…eh. My croque madame was so-so, over toasted/dry and not enough cheese. The potatoes were good, and everything else we ordered was alright. Maybe lunch is more their thing, but I know bakery items certainly are. The eggs Benedict did look good, but none of us ordered them. I may try lunch here, but I'd say come for a latte and pastry!

  8. This is a great little place serving up healthy & tasty breakfast & brunch. The coffee selections are good too. I had a mushroom egg scrambler & it was so good over a multi grain toast.
