  1. My friends and I heard about the interior decor of this place, so we decided to check it out. After seeing that there are two almost identical Indian restaurants next to each other, we decided to come into Milon (on the left side) as it got higher ratings. The food is good with heart portions, but the menu is incredibly overwhelming. We ordered Naan, Banana Pokora, and the Cheese & Spinach Poori for appetizers. For dinner, we had Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Tikka Mussallam, and Chicken Makhtani (a lot of Chicken i know). All was enjoyed and very filling.

The decor is pretty fun. The place is covered in lights, flags, and stickers on the walls. It's definitely a sight! It's cramped though, which is unfortunate. We were crammed up against a radiator and got to rub knees and play footsie with each other. Service wasn't bad and the food came out quickly. It's cash only, but the items are all very reasonably priced. Also, BYOB, so remember to grab a six pack before you come in!

Overall not great, but It was worth some decent food and a fun story.

  2. * service:  they couldn't care less about their customers, the only goal the waiters and hosts had was how serve you as quick as possible and get you out as fast as possible

    * food: very low quality, it tasted as it was recycled and made in massive quantities well in advance, disgusting we all left full plates behind.

*** decor: is fun for kids and students and if you have a good sense of humor, otherwise the decor is a painful car crash.

  3. There are about three (maybe four?) Bangladeshi restaurants literally on top of each other, occupying the same building. Mion is the one up the stairs on the left side. It can be a little intimidating walking through that immediate area when literally someone from each restaurant is right outside wanting you to come in.  My girlfriend warned me ahead of time.

Inside, it's a bit of a trip.  There are bright, multi-colored lights dangling pretty low from the ceiling.  We got the table by the window so we could look outside and not look at the lights the entire time.

Food was good, though I was trying to find something more Bangladeshi than Indian, but ended up getting a standard staple (chicken tikka masala).  Anything pakora is deep-fried; we ordered the eggplant pakora and it was ok.  I did like the naan; a little thicker than I expected and was very fresh.

The music is just a tad on the loud side, and if it's anyone's birthday, they'll play a louder track of Happy Birthday that sounds like it's from a Bollywood movie.

  4. 3.5 stars. This place is such a hoot. From the hosts outside trying to compete with all of the other Indian restaurants crowded onto this street to get you in the door to being BYOB to the crazy colorful array of lights inside, this place just has a unique character and is a fun experience. I dropped by here with two other friends on a Saturday night. Seating is pretty cramped but it felt cozy. I had a few bites of a lamb curry, which was very flavorful. I also had the vegetable curry and it was solid as well.

I didn't try enough of the food to feel like it really stood out to me, but just environment alone I think this is a fun place with a couple of friends! You can't go wrong with BYOB!

  5. This place is pretty freaking cool, not going to  lie. Extremely reasonable prices, BYOB and crazy lights! My sister in law had a gathering here for her birthday and when they brought out 12 individual cups of ice cream to celebrate (for all 12 of us), the entire lighting system changed in the restaurant and traditional Indian music was played. It was really fun! I would come back here for sure.

  6. Zero stars for food. Five stars for the experience.

Food: Not real Indian food. The chicken tikka and malai kofta are not at all what you would usually expect at an Indian restaurant. The naan was terrible and floury and the basmati rice was mushy and bland. Actually all of the food was bland. Indian food should have SOME element of spice to it – fail. The next day I warmed up frozen Indian food and honestly it tasted SO much better that what Milon is serving. The servings are pretty small as well – compared to other Indian restaurants.

Experience: So much fun! The ceiling is COVERED in multi-colored lights, ornaments, and tiny little flags from countries all around the world. There is loud Bollywood music playing. Honestly, it feels like a fast-paced disco club dinner. Fast paced, because the dinner came out 2 minutes after we ordered… made me slightly suspicious. Like they clearly had premade evrything and just scooped the curries out on dishes. My friends and I were enjoying our conversations and all of a sudden the lights dimmed and the music became even louder. The wait staff walked out in a line with ice cream and candles – obviously for a birthday. It was so exciting for all the guests, not just the birthday boy. I decided to lie and tell our waiter that it was my friends birthday too just because I wanted them to do that again – we all ended up with free ice cream! The wait staff was really nice too.

P.S. We were the only actual Indians at the place. The food is clearly catered to those who can't handle spice or flavor.

    P.S.S. Milon is BYOB!! Yay!!

  7. This place is one of my favorite places in the city for a super fun high energy dinner. I ate here last night but I've been here several times over three years and its always a blast! If you come you'll definitely be dancing in your seat vibing and smiling.

When you pull up you'll notice there are actually 3 separate Indian restaurants in the same building. One is in the basement and two are next to each other on the first level. I have never been to the others because Milon always looks fun and full and buzzing. The other hosts always seem really salty because Milon is just clearly the most popular! Haha

Last night we ordered chicken curry masala, a vegetable yellow curry, and naan. Doesn't sound like a lot, but they give you complimentary chips with an array of chutneys. They also serve the curries with rice, a lentil soup, and some pickled vegetables for garnishing so it looks like quite a smorgasbord when they bring it out. They also comp'd us some mango ice cream at the end which was just not even necessary but so so nice and yummy. The bill came out to 30 dollars which was shocking in the best way everrrr. ALSO MAJOR KEY OF THIS REVIEW: Milon is BYOB so you save a ton on alcohol and there are infinite bodegas and liquor stores in the area so no problem there.

The music is pumping throughout the night playing mostly club-style dancey indian pop songs. I don't know if this music is actually popular in India but that's just what it sounds like to me and I'm obsessed. The most iconic thing about this place though is the display. They have like a billion lights hanging from the ceiling along with little flags and decorative items from different countries. I read some other reviews saying it was "painful." Maybe if you are old and boring and want a quiet dinner with your boring friends in silence then don't go to a loud clubby indian restaurant in the East Village? I think the colors and textures make the experience really stimulating and interesting and help bring up conversations about people's countries! I've noticed the scene here is often international. Once we met these French people who gave us all shots of tequila for no reason! Yeah I love this place honestly its mega.

  8. This place was a blast. Visiting NYC for a girls weekend and we wanted to get away from normal. We were on our way to our reservation at 10 Bells when our taxi driver gave us this recommendation instead. He knew the owner and 10mins later we were sitting at the best table in the house, complete with festive decorations and Bollywood music. Think NYC meets Bombay. The service was fast and SO CHEAP. We ordered a ton of food from the menu and paid close to nothing. Everything on the menu was delicious – standouts were the Korma and complimentary dahl/pickled cabbage. The food is not traditional Indian the owner is actually Bengali. So it's not as spicy as usual or as heavy. Highly recommend for an entertaining night out
