Tuck Shop

“I usually go for the traditional beef meat pie–it's juicy and offers a tangy and slightly sweat flavor that's just awesome.”

“But I definitely make sure to hit them up whenever I'm in Chelsea Market (or to pay Chelsea Market a visit just to get my fix).”

“As an Aussie who's been away from home for nine months, I was STOKED to find somewhere that sells meat pies and sausage rolls.”

  1. A sizeable pie for a good price at the Chelsea Market. One of the great savoury options in a sea of sweet and bakery shops. Had the traditional beef pie, which was stuffed to the brim full of hot perfectly-seasoned beef. The pastry is on the harder dense side with a hint of sweetness, but it pairs up beautifully to the filling. I split a pie with a friend which made the perfect treat, but it would be a filling meal for one.

  2. You'll be hard-pressed to put something more delicious in your mouth than a Tuck Shop traditional beef Aussie pie.  They're the stuff dreams are made of.

I sorely miss their St. Mark's outpost, and I don't go to their remaining 1st St location as much as I should (shame on me).  But I definitely make sure to hit them up whenever I'm in Chelsea Market (or to pay Chelsea Market a visit just to get my fix).

Be forewarned, sometimes they run out of the beef pies if you go late in the day (sad face) but the chicken pot pie or the Mac and Cheese pie are decent alternatives.  The sides are also fun to try!

Best of all, you'll be served with a smile by a friendly gent with a great accent most of the time.  What's not to love?

For anyone mourning the extinction of Pie Face in NYC, fear not.  Tuck Shop is here to save the day.

  3. This is my first time trying Aussie meat pies and I have no point of reference to consult.  With that said, I absolutely loved the Traditional Beef Meat Pie at Tuck Shop.  It was my first stop at Chelsea Market and I was more than happy with this decision, as this meat pie was such a wonderful treat.

The ground beef was savory and ate almost like a sweeter beef chili.  There was a nice serving of onions in the meat and along with the sweet puff pastry shell, this was such hearty treat.  I really, really enjoyed – 10/10 would crave again.

On a new mission find the best Aussie meat pies in LA!  Taking recommendations 🙂

  4. This was my second visit to this shop located within Chelsea Market. Although I do not remember what I had the last time, I remember that it was good. This shop specializes in individual pot pies with different fillings. The food here is affordable and delicious which is not always a common pairing in NYC. On this visit I chose the steak and mushroom pie. I purchased it with the purpose of taking it on the plane to eat for dinner on my way home. This pie was hearty and well balanced in flavor. This shop has definitely solidified itself as a Chelsea Market fave for me and a staple when I come to NYC in the future.

  5. I absolutely love pies, sweet or savory. I ordered the lamb shank & veg pie and it looked gorgeous but once I cut into it I was so disappointed to find a soup-y filling inside. It was very off putting. The flavor of the filling was okay but there wasn't that much lamb. The meat was a little overcooked too. The crust also wasn't very flaky and it was on the harder and drier side. The staff was really friendly though. At $6 it was a little pricey but given that it's in Chelsea Market, it was understandable. Their other pies did sound yummy though and I'd be willing to come back and give them another chance to try the other flavors that they have.

  6. would give 4.5 if that were an option (cough yelp engineers cough)

prob the largest kale salad for the $$ in the neighborhood, the pies are great and the Lamington (sponge cake with jam covered in chocolate) is pretty tasty too.

  7. Great pie! Lamb shank pie was thick with gravy and slightly peppery. Prefect size for a lunch on the go.

Unfortunately, no home made sodas – as advertised on their wall – were available.

Plenty of napkins provided for the gravy messiness that ensued.

  8. I like to come with friends, so you can get so many kinds of favors. Mac & Cheese favor is really interesting, but a bit doughy. BBQ beef is spicy with big chunk of meat, Beef & mushroom is a bit water down, Lamb is flavorful with mild spicy, chicken pot pie is so so like what you will expect. The crust is a hard, but pairs good with the pie.
