Pado Sushi

“so much variety in sides, and then their sashimi platters are affordable and fresh.”

“Mussel soup, fried noodle, steamed crab legs, the obligatory kimchis, bean sprouts, baked corn, pancake just to name a few…”

“They give good portions and include a lot of seafood side dishes as opposed to "filler dishes" like creamed corn (though we did get that as well).”

  1. Superior Side Dishes for the Sacrifice of Sub-Par Sashimi

Went in at 9pm a Monday night. Ordered the smallest Sashimi platter option which was 60 bucks. The side dishes were plentiful and all good but no as good as I remember them to be when they first opened a couple years back. They also gave us a complimentary fancy looking spicy tuna roll and some 'white tuna.'

The overall quality of the fish was disappointing. Perhaps they decided to give us the lower quality cuts of fish because of age discrimination. Sometimes looking young may be definitely detrimental in a Korean dining establishment. The Hamachi (yellow tail) had a fishy scent. The tuna was discolored and was definitely not the dark vibrant red it should have been. The fish became warm very fast, maybe their refrigeration needs to be fixed. Whatever it was, something was off.

Pado Sushi is losing it's prestige as one of the top Flushing sashimi joints. The fish should be the main character of a Korean sushi house, not the side dishes. Step up your game Pado or you'll miss the great wave in which you rode into town.

  2. This place used to be delicious when they first opened up.. What happened to you, Pado Sushi?! Came here for my mom's birthday but we ended up receiving horrible service and the food isn't as good.  The sushi definitely was not as fresh as it used to be!

I hate it when you get a combination of bad food, bad service, and a dirty restroom.  I'm not so sure if I'll be coming back here but I'm hoping that I'll be able to change my review.

  3. Not that it discourages me, but this is definitely a Korean ajushi joint.  I love Korean sushi places because of all the crazy banchan that comes with it.  For my family, we ordered I think the Sushi & Sashimi C set which includes so much – including a whole lobster!  By the time the sushi and sashimi came out, we were pretty much full.  If I could do it all over again, I would've gotten the smallest sashimi set because the waitress told us afterwards that sushi is included in the sashimi set on the side anyway.  The tuna, salmon and white fish sushi was great.  The abalone and the really funky stuff didn't taste too fresh.

The best thing I have to say is at the very end was the spicy fish jigae which was divine. We were so stuffed that we asked to take it to go… and pretty much most of the sushi!  I am enjoyed it but have definitely have had better.

  4. Love this place. Has fresh sashimi and sushi, as well as, other delicious dishes on their extensive menu. Their portion sizes are fairly large, so the prices that you pay, are very worth it. I love to order their sashimi platters.. Fresh slices of raw fish.. YUM! And their ban-chan are very tasty too! Plus for dessert, they give you a free Yakult – Yogurt drinks, which I also love!

I've yet to try their Uni though.. someday when i come with a big group of friends perhaps.

    🙂

  5. My go to place for fresh sashimi in queens. Their sides are ENDLESS. so much variety in sides, and then their sashimi platters are affordable and fresh. the meal starts with a porridge and then probably over 20 different sides, that don't seem like sides at all. Then the sashimi/sushi arrive and you wonder if you can make room, which of course you can! When youre done they bring out the spicy fish soup with fish roe rice. You will leave full and happy. Probably one of my favorite places in flushing

  6. First time eating here was definitely an experience since none of us knew how to read korean and they don't describe what you'll be getting in the fixed meal plans. The food comes out rather quickly so no need to worry about the wait if you're super hungry. We usually get Plan C and this feeds 5 people. The plate of sashimi is very large and if you want more salmon or tuna be sure to let them know!! There will be a small plate of sushi/nigiri. We've had a corn dish, mushroom and broccoli, katsu, soup, sweet and sour pork and other dishes that i can't remember. There is definitely something for everyone so no worries! If there is a specific dish that you like they will refill it for you as well!

Although the prices may seem a little high it is a good value and will please everyone's unique taste.

  7. Technically, I should give it 2 stars because I honestly don't like this place, but I keep coming, because of reasons.

First of all, in terms of out-of-nowhere Fresh Meadows it's a pretty convenient place to get typical Japanese food and/or Korean food. The service is alright, they can speak both Korean and Chinese. Affordable. The food is alright for a picky eater like me. My favorite "dishes" are the banchan (starters/appetizers), to be honest. Especially the abalone porridge omg it's palate-gasm. One time my friend and I somehow got steamed egg on the house. That was pretty awesome, both its quality and the fact it was free.

FYI, the lunch specials are only Mon-Fri until 3pm. I have such a bad memory that I always come here on the weekend thinking of the lunch special and then ending up getting a sushi roll. Speaking of which the sushi is average; not the freshest raw fish out there but edible.

  8. Summary of Pado sushi in four words: Low grade, bad cuts.

Pado is a Korean Sushi place (all sushi places in Queens are Korean or Chinese run) that used to give a lot of fish (cuts weren't that great back then either) and "banchan." Last time I went here I almost got scammed. They never give itemized receipts. So when they just gave me a random number with a dollar sign to pay I thought it was the amount that was due but it seemed strangely high. I asked for the menu and found out that I was almost charged 6 dollars more than I was supposed to…

So after being almost scammed by them previously, I decided to give them another chance and I regret it. The fish that pado served was low grade and cut very badly. Sashimi lunch special used to be so much better and more diverse with tuna, salmon, and flounder but now it's composed entirely of flounder. I have no idea what they have going for them now.

I used to frequent pado a lot due to their excellent lunch special but now I don't think I will ever go back. I do not recommend pado to anyone. Even if your standard for sushi is REALLY low, I would not recommend it plainly because of the way they randomly over charged me on my previous visit. Who knows how many times they've pulled something like that on their customers? It's straight up THEFT.

Do NOT go here. You have been warned.
