  1. Stumptown is as great as NYC coffee gets.

New York is filled with hole-in-the-wall coffee shops and commercial cafes, but Stumptown is one of a kind. I like to say it's iconic staple of New York with it's Nitro cold brews and artisanal one-of-a-kind lattes.

Their drip coffee is a little too bitter for my taste, but the overall experience of this places makes it as great as it is. The atmosphere has a classic design that makes it comfortable to crack open your laptop and sip on some of the best gourmet coffee in NYC– that is, if you find a place to sit.

This place is always packed, especially on the weekends, so don't plan on coming if you're looking for a quiet place to work.

  2. With all the rave reviews Stumptown receives, I have to wonder if I was just unlucky today. My mocha was weak and thin, with hardly any coffee bean flavor. How disappointing! My Croissant was so dried out it was tough to bite into.  Unacceptable at $3.75 a piece.

No limit on Internet, however, if you come to work it can be tricky to find seating. While there are 7 tables and 1 family style table, it's consistently packed. Customers are frequently found waiting with their coffee in hand, for a seated customer to finish and make room. The New York Hustle is real.

Despite the incredibly disappointing coffee fare, I'm adding a star for two reasons: very friendly staff, and the large, well kept restroom. What a novelty this has become in NY cafes! I'd like to work in the restroom next time, please.

  3. You can never go wrong with stumptown, rule of thumb. Since I have been to their Ace hotel location in flatiron, decided to drop by this east village one on my daily run. It was definitely less crowded, but possessed a similar relaxing feeling. More seatings available as well.

Strongly recommend stumptown if you have not been a big fan of them – one of the best roasting beans originated from Seattle.

  4. Still the Best Cold Brew!!!  Enough Said!!

In my opinion, Stumptown's Cold Brew is the best.  There might be some close 2nd's out there, but numero uno still goes to Stumptown.  Stumptown is not the best because they are one of the first to dish out Cold Brew Coffee.  They are the best because their cold brew is smooth, not acidic, and strong enough to wake the dead.

This location is small with a few tables inside. The location is also hidden and away from the main streets.  Yes, we got lost looking for this place, but well worth the find.

Tip:  Stumptown's bottled Cold Brew is not the same.  Believe me.

  5. I ordered a macchiato "for here" ($3.50) and found its bitterness to be distracting.  I was much happier with the drink that I'd gotten at the Chelsea Blue Bottle kiosk a half-hour before.

Needless to say, this Stumptown has incredible cool and verve.  The woman who was ahead of me in line was arranging details of her photo shoot on the phone while we were waiting for our drinks.  The room is fairly small, but there's a six-seat community table that had a place for me.

  6. I'm no coffee connoisseur, but Stumptown's reputation probably speaks for itself in terms of quality.

Coffee here is really quite good, although it is quite a bit more expensive than your typical New York coffee shop, which is saying something. Theres always a plethora of NYU students studying here, due to the proximity, so you probably won't find a whole bunch of sitting room. It is a cute little space though, very quaint.

If you love your machiattos, espressos, flat whites, etc., this place is certainly worth a try.

I have been looking forward to trying this place for a long time.  I had a Large Nitro Cold Brew ($5.50). The coffee is infused with nitrogen gas which creates a creamy, stout-like effect. It had     slight bitter taste with notes of citrus. It had a lot of caffeine.  I also had an artisanal Pop-Tart. It was flaky and buttery. The frosting was sweet and salty caramel. The filling tasted of apple pie. I saved half of it for later so I could toast it and eat it with vanilla ice cream.

  8. Right when you step in here you'll understand why this is one of my favorite coffee shops of all time. When you step in, there's this force that just picks you up, slaps you across the face, and forces you to take a deep inhale and just… enjoy. When you walk into Stumptown, you hit a wall of a deep coffee aroma. It resonates all throughout the store as well. It is absolutely to die for. Now if you somehow find a way to break the spell of the smell and find a way to order, then you're stuck with a decision. Do you order a deep, rich, aromatic pour over, a subtle dark drip, or go with the ever classic, ever decisive Nitro Cold Brew. Honestly, there are too many good options here, but if you finally, somehow find a way to actually order, then I commend you. It usually takes me a good 15 minutes to order because, frankly, I can't decide and I'm enjoying the smell too much.
