  1. Winter Warmers is a pop-up shop that is akin to those temporary ice cream parlors you find in the summer.

My colleague and I stopped by after a client meeting in the area and were immediately drawn to the special hot chocolates. She opted for the spicy dark (just the way she likes her men) and I went for the minty milk chocolate (just the.. wait, that doesn't work).

    Divine.

Our drinks were so rich and so… rich.
Winter Warmers really hit the spot.

  2. Ordered: Back-to-School Special

Pros-Customizable with various marshmallow flavors and toppings.

    Cons-Limited seating.

  3. This place is really 3.5 stars, but I'm being nice and rounding up to 4.

Cute spot, cute concept, execution so-so. It's a cute little shop in Park Slope, but it probably has all of 10 seats. There's only one guy working the entire operation and he gets backed up when it's busy. He has to take orders, put the drinks together, make the s'mores, and work the cash register (iPad).

I did manage to snag the one table for me and my friends. We all ordered hot chocolate and homemade graham s'mores. Two of us wanted hot apple cider, but they ran out and it would have taken 15 minutes to make more. The hot chocolate was good. I tried the soy version and it was quite tasty. You could barely taste the soy in it which is what I prefer. I ordered my s'more with a strawberry marshmallow and dark chocolate. It was pretty good and I liked the graham cookie.

It's a fun place to try out, but I'm not sure if I'd go back. I think it's charming to take your kids there, as I saw people doing, but for adults just grabbing a hot treat, there are other places to go.

  4. If you are going to sell one thing, you better make it exceptionally good.

Unfortunately, I didn't find that to be the case with the s'mores here, yet another one of these places that's trying to specialize in one food.

This is a very nice little shop that is perfect for its Park Slope location. They sell Hot Chocolate and S'mores, perfect little kid snacks, and they have little benches and chalkboards inside for the Park Slope moms and their children to play with.

When we came in, there was an entire army of children screaming. We were able to grab a seat though at the single little table, and ordered some Hot Chocolate ($3.50) and a specialty s'more ($4). We asked for suggestions, and he mentioned the Peanut Butter & Jelly, which was all I needed to hear. First off, this is not really anything like a traditional s'more – you can choose to get regular graham crackers, or some type of graham cookie, which is what this specialty one came on. If you want the s'more experience, I would suggest getting the traditional grahams.

So he toils over the tiny little s'more and then places it in some kind of oven for a few seconds. One of the main problems is that the thing is really messy. Again, if this is all you make, you should be making it really nice, neat and attractive to eat. S'mores don't necessarily need to be messy like this, so it was a real letdown. It was also quite hard to pick up – the bottom cookie was stuck to the wax paper it was on, so the whole kind of fell apart after one bite. The combination of flavors was very tasty, but the packaging just wasn't there. It's also way too pricey for the dinky little few bites you get.

The Hot Chocolate happened to be quite good, with a nice dollop of whipped cream on top making for a really nice cold day treat. The guy running the store was really nice, and made for a very pleasant experience, but unfortunately I don't think I would return for the s'mores, as there are tastier, better-executed sweets all around this neighborhood.

  5. It's hard to give a cute small business with a nice employee less than 4 stars, but I don't see myself going back to Winter Warmers. Hot chocolate and cider lend themselves to a cozy, welcoming coffee shop environment. This shop has one child-sized picnic table and some window stools. There's pressure not to linger and no place for coats, but it's cold outside (hence the Winter Warming).

My cider was delicious, but I won't ever be able to justify paying $4 for two inches of s'mores–even one with homemade graham and marshmallows.
