  1. This is one of those mexican deli's that I would have never gone to if it was not for the great Yelp reviews and they were spot on.

This deli has some "authentic" Mexican recipes or at least they say they do I personally wouldn't know the difference. Upon entering this establishment you notice everything is in a mix of Spanish and English with hot sauces and treats that are not in your typical american deli.

The lady behind the counter is really sweet and likes to make jokes. She also takes your order and makes the food. I got the burrito with the goat meat and everything in it. The meat used in the food changes daily and offers some seriously unique spices that I am not used to but made the meat delicious.

The burrito here was delicious and I suggest you try this spot if you live in the area.

    In short:
    – Big burrito
    – fair prices
    – fast

  2. I take it all back, Zaragoza is fantastic.

Re-reading my review from almost two years ago, I'm not sure where my head was at, because whenever I'm in my old neighborhood, I'm always compelled to come back for a fantastic taco.

How they're able to stock their tiny counter with several different and obscure meats is beyond me. The lovely gentleman who's always serving has figured out a way to maximize his diminutive square footage and provide variety that you don't see anywhere. Lengua, carne asada, carnitas, cabeza…it's all there, and it's all delicious. If you've ever been impressed with the amount of eats and drinks flight attendants have when pushing that small metal cart down the aisle, you'll be even more impressed with Zaragoza.

Bonus for those who avoid carbs, you can order all their meats a la carte by the pound, and they also carry a small number of hard to find spices, avocados, etc…in the small market that compliments the food service area.

  3. Look, I'm not a fan of the mission burrito, but I think a burrito with rice done well can compete with a San Diego burrito. Zaragoza's burrito does just that. It may seem ghetto that you're getting microwaved rice, but consider the alternative at chipotle, where you rice has been sitting there half the day on a hot tray waiting for some sap to pay that much for a "Mexican" experience.

This is my recommendation: If you are in the mood for a burrito and can get here, you should come here instead of the competitors. What I ate tonight was legitimately good, and it didn't involve some Chipotle/Dos Toros-esque assembly line style food preparation process, which is horrible to watch. Instead of box store burrito, have one from California, right here in NYC for less money. The owners will even thank you for it.

  4. stop in for a tamale, pick up lightbulbs and other household needs while you wait! one stop shop.
my favourite bodega! great service, and best of all – GREAT FOOD THAT IS SO INEXPENSIVE!
the chicken & jalapeño tamale is my fave.

  5. Went here with a buddy of mine for a quick bite before heading out to a bar in the area. He recommended the place and demanded that I withhold judgment until the food came.

His demand was not upheld, as I'll admit that I involuntarily let my mind drift to a pretty dark place after sitting down here. If I were dropped in this restaurant without any contextual details of my whereabouts, I could easily be convinced I were in a Latin American country that I would not be ready to handle.

I'll give it to them, though – burrito was really tasty. After licking my plate and gulping down our complimentary salsa bowls, I begged for the forgiveness of both my friend and the shop's owners/cooks/enterprisers, gave the bodega's cat a few courtesy pats and then was on my way with restrained expectations of ever returning.

  6. If not for yelp, I would have never gone into this place because from the outside you would never know they serve delicious mexican food.

    Food:
we got all 4 tacos. I cannot remember the types of meat there were BUT… my favorites were the two that were NOT chicken and NOT chorizo/potato. The meat was very delicious and well cooked, but I wish there was more flavor/seasoning without having the need to put on a lot of salsa verde.   It was also kinda sketch that he was heating things up in a microwave (gordon ramsay would kill someone haha) but whatever, it was delicious.
But $3.50 without tax is solid for a taco in NYC!
    $10 minimum for credit card.

Someone next to us got the burrito which looked amazing.

Definitely hope to come back for some other foods.

Also, if you are going on a hot day, maybe don't eat inside.. it's REALLY hot.. take your food and go

  7. Ahhh what a gem! Zaragoza has the best burrito I've had on the east coast. Their daily meats vary and you can order them in tacos, burritos, enchiladas and more. I couldn't decide on what items to get so the kind lady offered to make me a burrito loco. She stuffed it with Carnitas, pollo mexicano and beef tongue. It was so freaking good. I also had a beef tongue taco and a carnitas taco. Prices were good and you definitely get your moneys worth! I will definitely be coming back for the burritos. Also if you like spicy, let them know. They have their homemade salsas that had me sweating. Big fan!

  8. After many drinks my friends and I needed food and I found this place on yelp. When walking in my one friend kept asking if this was the right place because it's definitely not fine dining atmosphere.

One guy is running the show, you tell him what you want with what meat and he's off making your order all from the little spot he has set up right in the front of the store. I went for the burrito it was only $8-$8.50 and a good size. I chose shredded beef as my protein. I insisted on him putting in a lot of jalapeños because I like things spicy sometimes. Oh man that burrito was hotttt. Full slices of jalapeños not those small rings I'm used to. Still great though. From the rice, beans, meat and sauces on top, it was delicious and you can't beat the prices. People were constantly stopping in to get their Saturday night take out. More authentic than any chain Mexican like chipotle/moes. Real deal Mexican.
